No license? No gun? No experience? No problem! Drop in by 8:45 AM on any shoot day and we’ll supply everything you need for your first time on the range.
2. Geared up & ready to go
We’ll pair you with a club member who’ll get you set up with the right gear, run through quick safety basics, and find a shotgun that feels comfortable in your hands.
3. Feel the thrill of your first hit!
You'll shoot 25 targets with a dedicated coach right beside you. Most first-timers smash their very first clay within 10 shots. There's nothing quite like that feeling!
4. Stick around for the club vibe
Step off the field and straight into the post-shoot barbecue. Grab a hot meal, chat with the locals, and relive the best shots of the day!
Four ways to break a clay
From traditional trap to fast-paced field simulation, explore the four disciplines hosted at Atherton Clay Target Club. Every discipline is graded, so you're always shooting against people at your level — not against the club champion on day one.

Down The Line
Our bread-and-butter trap discipline. Five shooters track clays flying away at unknown angles. Simple to learn, challenging to master.

Skeet
Fast crossing targets. Shoot from 8 set stations as clays cross from high and low houses. Builds lead, speed, and rhythm.

5 stand
A fast-paced clay variant. Five stands face multiple traps throwing unpredictable paths. Great for building quick instincts and sharp reflexes.

Practice
No pressure, open rounds. Ideal for beginners learning the basics, or seasoned pros fine-tuning gear and setup.

Since 1991 the Atherton Clay Target Club has been a home away from home on a quiet stretch of the Tablelands, framed by rainforest ridges and open cane country.
Affiliated with the Australian Clay Target Association, we host everything from relaxed social club days to registered competitive shoots—all wrapped in good old-fashioned country hospitality.
Never picked up a shotgun before? You’re in good company. Most of our current members started in the exact same boat. Just bring closed-toe shoes and a bit of curiosity—we'll take care of the rest!
